HYBRID CASE CLOCK
Designing it yourself is half the fun.

Here's a picture of the clock I just finished for my "little" brother's wedding gift. I've made four other clocks previously, but they have been from purchased plans. This is by far the best I've done.
This is the first time I've completely designed a project from basic ideas. I took three clocks that I liked and combined the elements into what you see here. I purchased the movement and face from Rockler and designed the case around the dimensions of the face.
The case is all mortise-and-tenon joinery, though I "cheated" and doweled the door frames. The only fasteners are those holding the movement to the face and the four brads holding the back in place. The clock is solid cherry (another first) and the brass hinges are the only ornamentation. The finish is five coats of wiped-on Watco Danish Oil.
Everyone at WoodCentral was an integral part of this process, though I had few direct questions. It seemed that what I needed to know was coming up pretty regularly!. . . Jay Drew
