A GODFATHER'S GIFT
Appliqués and grain pattern enhance the look of this project.
SHOP OWNER: John Britz
I made this cradle for my nephew, Joel, and his wife, Tracy. They are expecting their first child soon. Since I am Joel’s godfather, I thought I would make him something very special. I'm hoping this will be a family heirloom, and will get handed down for many years to come.
The cradle is made of oak, with brass bolt covers and oak appliqués. For the basket bottom I used laminated knotty pine. The brass bolt covers and appliqués were bought at Lee Valley Tools, and the oak spindles came from Bear Woods Supply.
I thought I'd get fancy with the headboard and footboard by adding breadboard ends to the panels.
Done in a natural finish, I applied six coats of Minwax Tung Oil, which highlighted the look of the beautiful grain.. . . John Britz
