FLOORING FROM SCRATCH
Walnut and cherry parquetry highlight this complicated flooring job.

These are pictures of the custom floors my associate and I recently installed. My husband Dan designed the parquet patterns, and my associate and I milled, installed and finished all the flooring.
The parquet floor in the foyer (170 sq.ft.) is made of walnut and cherry. The customers chose this combination of woods to fit the cherry/walnut theme that is repeated in various places in the area of renovation.
Some of the wood used in the parquet was cut over 18 years ago. By consistently changing grain direction with the walnut, we were able to get a nice effect.
The random-width cherry plank floor (1300 sq.ft.) in the kitchen area includes a combination of the customer's wood and ours. The widest run is just a little over 10 in. wide and the narrowest is 3 1/2 in. wide.
There is also a small den (190 sq.ft.) which has walnut plank. We used a parquet detail to make the transition from the walnut plank to the cherry plank.
Once everything ws installed, we finished all the floors with Velvit Oil. I am pleased to say the customers were very happy with the results.. . . Barbara Gill
