This sculpted figured cherry rocker sold before its completion.
SHOP OWNER: John Richards
LOCATION: Hickory, NC
This rocker was my first piece publicly offered for sale, so it carries the honor of Issue #1. It is solid cherry with some spectacular figure in the seat, crest rail, and one arm. All of the joinery is traditional Maloof joinery with the exception of screws. There are no screws in this rocker or in any of my student's rockers. There are four brass pins that have been epoxied into the back leg to seat intersection to reinforce that joint. The finish is a hand applied varnish and a final coat of wax to set the soft satin sheen and give the rocker a very touchable softness. It has been hand signed, dated, and numbered with a wood-burning pen. This particular rocker took approximately 100 hours to complete and was sold before it left the shop.
