A FAMILY AFFAIR
This shop's owners span three generations.

SHOP OWNER: Mathew Blubaugh
LOCATION: Spokane, WA

I am 21 years old and I own a shop with my father and my grandfather in Chewelah, WA, 50 miles north of Spokane. I like to take on a number of side projects for family, friends, and some clients. Here are a few of my latest projects.
Entertainment Center

I built this entertainment center, one of my favorite projects, for a good friend of mine. it took us several hours of planning and drawing before I actually started building. It is from solid quartersawn red oak and includes a custom stain mix to bring out the flake in the oak. This is special to me because I used no veneers, no plywoods, etc. As you can see, I built it around his equipment. The back of the entertainment center is as awesome as the front, which is why it is finished all the way around.
One of the main features, the bi-fold pocket doors, was important because of the cabinetís width and not wanting to block the TV. We wanted to be able to see it from all sides of the room. Everything is bookmatched and all of the side panels flow through. This project was truly one of my proudest efforts. I have about 130 hours in it.

Armoire   Changing Table

I built a baby's bedroom set for the same people, who were having a little girl and wanted something very special for her. My friend found a certain style she liked and we went about the design from there. The furniture is solid hard maple with a light maple stain. The drawers feature dovetail joinery, and solid finished drawer bottoms. This was fun to build, knowing that it will last a few lifetimes.
