Bernie's First Cradle

INSPIRED TO ROCK
Learning new skills in a short time.

SHOP OWNER: Bernie Simmons
LOCATION: Birmingham, AL

I really didn't get serious about woodworking until about three years ago, having just tinkered mostly with crude stuff. Then I saw a cradle featured in Fine Woodworking, and it inspired me. Soon after that, I learned our neighbor was pregnant but I wasn't sure I had the ability or time for such a project, as I had to learn turning spindles on the lathe, scroll sawing, mortise and tenon construction and design in a few short months. Bernie's Third Cradle

After making the first cradle, I soon started on several others. Another neighbor was pregnant, then a business partner adopted a baby, and I built a fourth cradle to donate to Picasso Pets, to be auctioned as part of a fundraiser (it brought $1000!).
Doggie Bar

A week ago, my wife asked me to make a "doggy bar" for our two dogs. I had received a Legacy Ornamental Mill 900 for Christmas, and this was an opportunity to make a zebrawood and barley twist walnut legged "doggy bar".
