A home for bobbles and beads.
SHOP OWNER: Jason Walcott
LOCATION: Grand Rapids, MI
I decided to build this jewelry chest for my wife after she made the comment to me that she needed something bigger for her earrings and necklaces. That is all it took for me to get out into the shop and start working on this chest. I borrowed design ideas from other boxes and chests that I’d seen in my old Fine Woodworking Design books, and combined them to form this chest.
The joinery is simple mitered corners, with hand cut cherry pins for effect. The drawer fits tight in the box, and slides on a ¾” plywood bottom. There are two tills inside that slide on two sets of hardwood rails. I used wenge for the pulls. The piece is finished with a slightly tinted deck stain, and still needs a couple of clear topcoats.. . . Jason Walcott
