SHAKER STYLE DINING TABLE
Featuring a tiger maple top and painted base.
SHOP OWNER: Dave Griessmann
LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH
This Shaker style table is my latest project. The plan came from Popular Woodworking Magazine issue #136 and featured by Glen Huey.
I wiped the painted poplar legs while drying to simulate wear (Something that doesn't show too well in the photos). The top is one-inch thick tiger maple. I finished it by sanding to 220 grit, staining with golden amber dye, putting on a coat of boiled linseed oil, and one coat of shellac. After that, I packed the top up and went to Huey's Furniture Shop, where he let me spray four coats of pre-catalyzed lacquer. All the steps involved sanding between coats.
My only “oops” is that I should have used a towel instead of a rag while wiping the legs. This would have shown more of a wear look.. . . Dave Griessmann
