Four-Spiral Lamp

FOUR-SPIRAL LAMP
How'd he do that?

SHOP OWNER: Daniel Morton
LOCATION: Homestead, FL

I made this four-spiral lamp some years ago. Each of the spirals has a hole bored in the center from end to end. This lamp measures 20 inches long and about 10 inches in diameter and turned from a section of a green tree. My friends told me I could not do it; I was too dumb to know any different, so I did it anyway! This was a three-year project.
Turned from a green 14-inch diameter by 22-inch long cypress log, the base is 2 inches thick, and the spirals are 18 inches long. Since the wood is Cyprus, it has vivid growth rings. I positioned each spiral on the base exactly as it grew within 1/16 of an inch.
