QUEEN ANNE-STYLE HIGHBOY
Always measure twice, cut once, and count twice!
SHOP OWNER: Chris Knob
LOCATION: Wallingford, PA
Constructed entirely from solid tiger maple, this Queen Anne bonnet-topped Massachusetts highboy occupied most of my wintertime in the shop. I must again, thank the good folks over at Hearne’s Hardwoods for their spectacular product. I used a custom-ground shaper cutter from Freeborn Tools to create the gooseneck molding. All the drawers have dovetail joinery made using a Leigh D4 jig. Half mortise locks secure the drawers and the brasses are from Horton Brass.
The highboy measures 88” H x 38” W x 22” D. The finish is a water-soluble aniline dye and linseed oil, topped with a combination varnish/polyurethane/naphtha wipe-on topcoat. By the way, at the time of this photo, I was a brass pull short (bottom drawer/center). No artistic statement here, I just can’t count!. . . Chris Knob
