BASEMENT ENTERTAINMENT CENTER
Maple and cherry accent this original design.

In the fall of 2001, I was completing my unfinished basement. While adding 1000 sq. ft. of living space to my home, my design concept sought an open feel. I envisioned a home theatre in one corner of the basement and a built-in entertainment center. These pictures show the fruits of my labor.
My design called for the use of maple and cherry, it’s mostly sheet stock finished with hardwood face framing and moldings. The top shelf and display cabinet feature lighting from above using small pot lights, all on a dimmer switch.
I began the finishing with an application of Watco Danish Oil (natural) and followed that by applying five coats of a homemade clear coat, rubbed out and waxed.
I took a week’s vacation to build this unit. As it turned out, it was the week of the 9-11 tragedy. I had a great deal of distraction and emotion to deal with that week in order to complete it. However, I like the look of the finished cabinetwork.. . . Jim Shaver
