Cherry and Birdseye Maple Chest

A CHEST TO CHERISH
This mother's gift is a work of love.

SHOP OWNER: Michelle Stone
LOCATION: Mariposa, CA

This is a chest that I designed and built for my daughter's wedding present. The chest features solid cherry frames and top. I made the panels by cutting bookmatched veneers from some spectacular Birdseye maple I found. Inside, the panels feature cherry veneer that I cut. I attached the veneers with a vacuum press.
The joinery for the frames is all mortise and loose tenon. The chest is finished with a mixture of tung oil, boiled linseed oil, and spar urethane. I spent many loving hours working on the finish. I hope she cherishes it for years to come. Cherry and Birdseye Maple Chest
