THE SPICE OF LIFE
Beautiful PA Spice Boxes feature a variety of woods.

I built two Pennsylvania Spice Boxes last year from various woods I had around the shop. The first is a 2/3-scale Pennsylvania Spice Box, built for the annual fall auction at my church.
The cherry dovetailed cabinet features a walnut door panel and drawer fronts veneered in walnut, resawn from some common walnut from the scrap bin at my lumberyard. The price was only one dollar per board foot!
The drawer sides are quartersawn white oak. I cut all of the dovetails for the drawers and the cabinet by hand. The finish is linseed oil and lacquer.
The second Pennsylvania Spice Box is a 1/2-scale jewelry box, which I built for my wife. I constructed it from cherry, poplar, and bird's eye maple veneers. The finish is oil and shellac.. . . Chris Knob
