The cherry puts the Class into Classic!

Here is a six-legged huntboard that I completed construction on at the beginning of the summer but only got around to spraying this week. Fortunately, I built this for an understanding friend.
The design comes from some plans I got out of Popular Woodworking. I like the overall look but the scale of the project surprised me once I was done. It stands just over 40” tall at 60” wide! I think the pictures can be deceiving in this regard. This piece requires just the right place in your home.
Built out of cherry, the huntboard has maple as the secondary wood. I used walnut dowels to peg all the joints. I also made some cherry quarter round molding to line the inside of cabinets – not that there were any gaps… urgh… purely decorative!
The panels are solid cherry, cut from a 14-inch wide board that I had in the shop. I cut the dovetails using a Leigh D4 dovetailing jig. The hardware came from Horton Brass, which included spinners for the doors. The finish, which I finally got around to, is a sprayed lacquer.. . . Jason Tuinstra
