Walnut Grandfather Clock

WALNUT WITH A TWIST
His dream project built at last - for someone else!

SHOP OWNER: Bob Borner
LOCATION: Chaska, MN

Since taking a shop class, back in high school many, many years ago, I've always wanted to build a grandfather clock. That dream has finally come true, but I'm sorry to say, I don't get to keep it.
This clock was built out of black walnut, which has an interesting story behind it. The boards came from a tree that was taken down in the front yard of a family's home. The space occupied by the walnut tree was needed for a new house that was to be built.
The lumber has been drying now for about three years and recently the children have absconded with some of the wood! They brought it to me and asked that I build the grandfather clock for their father as a surprise. It should be a special gift, considering the wood came from his very own tree.
The plan and clockworks came from Klockit. It is finished with five hand-rubbed coats of Formby's High Gloss.
