A GAME OF KINGS AND QUEENS
This chessboard features a stained glass battle field.
SHOP OWNER: Mike King
LOCATION: Wellborn, FL
This chessboard consists of 64 individual pieces of stained glass. The oak used for the lower storage case was some old sub flooring my grandfather had from the 40's. Hence, the nail stains. The corners are connected using box joints.
The frame around the stained glass and the base for the storage compartment is maple. The knob for the drawer is rosewood with a maple insert. I cut all the chess pieces, which are cedar and pine, on my scroll saw. They fit neatly into the drawer underneath for storage.
I love woodworking. Although my shop is quite modest, I built it from the ground up. I even made all of the trusses myself. I do not play much chess but wanted a chess set, so I decided to make one. It sits on a table and our cat loves lying on the cool glass.. . . Mike King
