TimberKing At Work

A VISIT FROM A SAWYER AND A TURNING INSTRUCTOR
A bandsaw mill and a little help can really cut to the chase.

SHOP OWNER: Lester Gillett
LOCATION: Independence, MO

I was helping the sawyer, Ron Collans, who was cutting walnut and maple logs the day I took these pictures. I have been helping Ron for about the past five years. He owns a TimberKing bandsaw mill that, with my help, can cut about 1500 board feet in a day. Ron is retired but found he likes cutting lumber better that just sitting around. Most of the work he does is for people like me that find a good log and want to use it for their woodworking.

Jack and Me

Here is a picture of Jacques Vesery from Damariscotta, Maine and me. Jack was here to give a turning demo at Turn About Woods on hollow form vases and then he explain how he carved the leaves and feathers. He also demonstrated how he colors in multilevel to achieve depth in the piece. He sells most of his turnings to collectors and galleries.
Turn About Woods is a store that specializes in turning supplies. Sandy and Dan Moreno run it. Dan also holds classes on turning and has other turners give the classes. They have a Website that contains a lot of good information. The address is: www.turnaboutwood.com.
