SMALL QUILTED MAPLE CHEST
Retired teacher's plans include lots of woodworking.
SHOP OWNER: Mark Valsi
LOCATION: Pasadena, CA
This small chest is about 14 inches wide, 12 inches high and 6 inches deep. I saw a picture of it in a book and thought I could make something like it. The Asian influence of the design is what attracted my attention. I recently retired from 36 years as a teacher and I'm looking forward to doing a lot of woodworking.
I consider myself an intermediate woodworker. Basic construction techniques were all I used, nothing fancy. I did use a nice hunk of very beautiful quilted maple, and the accents are walnut. I finished the box with Danish oil and gave it a couple of coats of paste wax. It took me a couple of weeks working off and on to complete the project.. . . Mark Valsi
