MULTI-USE CORNER CABINET
A home for electronic media components and the office computer.

My client and I created the custom design for this cabinet. He wanted it to house a 27-inch TV and include pocket doors. It also had to serve as a computer/office desk.
The TV shelf is suspended from the top of the cabinet with European dowel nut and allen head bolt hardware. I'd never seen these fasteners used in this type of application before, so I had to put them through some rigorous testing before committing to their use. I needed to be sure the shelf would carry the weight of the TV, VCR, DVD, and all of the other possible items that will be placed there.
The crown molding is made with a chamfering bit, used inverted, in order to make the molding curved. Can you believe it? This cabinet is mainly built with some freaky maple plywood I found (rejects!!! probably due to its irregular curly grain pattern). Solid western curly maple and veneer were used too. The desktop, keyboard pullout tray, top, and large TV/VCR shelves are cherry and cherry plywood. All the door and drawer handles are made from ipe and the drawers are Baltic birch plywood.
If I ever build something like this again, I'd make the middle cabinet in two pieces; top and bottom units. The center section is screwed to the side pieces. It's really cumbersome to move, but thanks to the UHMW plastic feet I used, the whole thing moves on the wooden floor like a breeze.
My client is very happy and pleased with it. So am I, especially getting it out of the shop!. . . H. C. Sakman, a.k.a. "Chico"
