CHERRY TALL CLOCK

CHERRY TALL CLOCK
Featuring cove moldings cut using an antique wooden plane.

SHOP OWNER: Mike Lynch
LOCATION: Charlestown, RI

About two years ago, I found a piece of cherry with incredible figure. I was looking for a special project that would show off the wood. After taking some ideas from several Shaker style clocks, I came up with this design. Working for three months only on weekends, I finally completed the clock.

I made all of the cove moldings with an antique wooden molding plane. The movement is a Hermle chain-driven, Westminster chime purchased from Woodcraft. The dial was hand painted by a friend who also decorates harpsichords at Zuckermann Harpsichords International. For the finish, I used Minwax Antique Oil and Butcher's Wax.
