NEW LIFE FOR AN OLD LATHE
This F.J. Hills metalworking lathe spins wood with the best of 'em.
SHOP OWNER: Cliff Ammons
LOCATION: Greenville, TN
Here's a shot of an old metal lathe that I adapted to woodturning. It is a "F.J. Hills Sons," manufactured in New York many years ago. I would like to know more about it if anyone out there is familiar with that company.
Check out the hard maple risers for the headstock and tailstock...whooee..well it works!
I am primarily a wood turner and have other lathes, but I really love tinkering with this old machine and I still use it fairly often.
I sure do enjoy your website. You folks do a fantastic job....Cliff Ammons
((Editor's note: Here's another candidate for our vintage machinery gallery. Anyone else want to submit one of their favorite old machines?))
