VARIATION ON A CLASSIC
This ash credenza was inspired by Greene & Greene.
SHOP OWNER: Clint Searl
LOCATION: Kintnersville, PA
Here are a couple pictures of my latest project, a dresser/credenza inspired by a Greene & Greene drop-front desk designed in 1904 for the Adelaide Tichenor house in Long Beach, CA. (See photo, below.)
The credenza measures 54˝" W. x 34˝" H. x 20" D. and is made of solid white ash. The butterflies and “through tenons” on the side panels are decorative inserts. The widths of the drawers are a linear progression, so that the left and the right drawers are in the ratio of the Golden Section (1.61803…); and the heights of the drawers from top to bottom likewise vary, so that the top row of drawers and the bottom drawer are in the Golden Section ratio. The back is paneled in vertical shiplapped ash.
I finished the piece with nitrocellulose lacquer over water-soluble aniline dye stain.. . . Clint Searl
