Super-organized shop is a garage no more.
SHOP OWNER: Mark Meier
LOCATION: Ann Arbor, MI
Here are a few pictures of my shop. This two car garage used to hold two cars (!) but then I discovered woodworking and now it houses zero.
I have a super-tolerant wife who lets me get away with this. (Of course the ultra-deluxe ice scraper I got her for our anniversary helps her feel good about this during the Michigan winters.) [EDITOR'S NOTE: She'll get you for this, Mark. Trust me.]
You can see a few of my "follies" around the space. (See photos, above & below.) Planes, spokeshaves, mallets, rasps, saws, marking gauges and chisels -- I've got a user-collection of each and love them all!
In two of the photos you can see one of my first carving projects. This is a rocking horse for my two-year-old son Kirk. I took a horse carving class in Ohio last summer and that's what got me started. (The horse head we carved in the class is visible in the background of one photo, below.)
I've almost finished with the woodworking. Now it's time for sanding, primer, sanding, primer, sanding (ughhh). I'm then crating the horse up and sending it to my father-in-law in Nebraska for painting.
Because of the limited space, all the stationary power tools are on wheels so they can be rolled into the open and worked with. The cart with handplanes is on wheels as well.. . . Mark Meier
