A GIFT TO BE SIMPLE
Shaker end tables are always in style.
SHOP OWNER: Jeff Chaplin
LOCATION: Broken Arrow, OK
I made these Shaker-style end tables to complement the new sofa and loveseat my wife purchased. They are constructed of red oak. The aprons and legs are joined with mortise-and-tenon joinery. The table legs are 1 1/2" at the top and taper down to 7/8" at the bottom. Only the two inside faces of the legs are tapered.
The drawers have poplar sides and backs with oak fronts, which are half-blind dovetailed to the sides. I cut the drawer fronts out of the front aprons in an attempt to preserve the grain pattern across the fronts. The tops are approximately 22" x 26" and the tables stand 24" high.
I finished everything with three coats of oil-based polyurethane, then added an extra two coats on the table tops.. . . Jeff Chaplin
