David Fair's Purpleheart Box

MAKE-UP POINTS!
A purpleheart box makes for a happy fiancee.

SHOP OWNER: Gary Fair
LOCATION: Vandergrift, PA

Here is a basic box made of purpleheart for my fiancee, who has just too much make-up.
Purpleheart is a very workable wood so long as everything used to cut and shape it is carbide-tipped.

I constructed this box using lock-miter corners. The lid sits on matched dados to keep it from moving. I used the inlay to create a visual contrast to make the purpleheart really stand out.
The finish is three coats of semi-gloss Deft lacquer. In all, it's a heavy box for only 13" x 8" x 5", but well worth its weight in the beauty of the wood.
