HEAR YE...AND PASS THE HATA sampling of turned work.

I live halfway between Oklahoma City and Dallas with my wife and two sons. I started turning about 12 years ago to add something extra to my cabinetmaking and ended up so fascinated by all the possibilities this new tool offered that it became my main focus. Also having only a one-car garage and a tool collecting habit, I was running out of space to assemble even a small cabinet. Another benefit of turning is all the good friends I have made that share this common interest. Here are a few photos of my work.
The lead photo shows a 10"-diameter spalted sycamore hat and a natural-edge walnut piece. The walnut piece is 12" x 6" at the natural edge and 6" tall.
Here are some of the gavels that I make for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. They wanted walnut samples submitted but I couldn't resist making a small sample gavel of cocobolo. These are 16" long and the heads are 3" x 5 1/2".
This piece is a sycamore vessel in the southwest style with acrylic paint for color. I use a Foredom tool with a small burr to remove the wood around the pattern and leave a textured background.
I am enjoying WoodCentral very much and am continuing to meet new friends here, one of whom is a new turner who lives near me. I am about to go visit him today....Larry Hancock
