IT STARTS WITH A BOX
Exotic woods and a simple design pay off.

I've recently set up my 625-sq.-ft. shop with a Unisaw, Delta 8-in. jointer, Dewalt planer, Hegner scrollsaw, Delta bandsaw and drill press and belt/disc sander, Dewalt 12-in. compound miter saw, Dewalt biscuit joiner, Porter Cable routers, cordless drills, Tiger saw, jigsaw, and circular saw.
Finally, after buying all of that stuff, I've completed my first project. Since I've never had any shop classes or woodworking classes, I started small, just to learn how to use the tools.
It is a decorative box made of cocobolo, bubinga, lacewood and hard maple. The inside is lined with navy-blue felt. The hinge is a brass rod inserted like a dowel would be, but it is not glued to the lid.
Now, after completing some more boxes, cutting boards, toys and a medicine cabinet, I'm ready to make some furniture. I'll send photos once I've completed a larger project.
