Can you believe it?
WoodCentral is 5!
WoodCentral officially celebrates its five-year anniversary on October 23, 2003, and we're still doing what we've done all along, providing community and good woodworking information to more visitors than practically any other woodworking site on the Internet. It's very gratifying to know that we're doing something right!
We need your continuing support.
WoodCentral would not be as vital as it is without the considerable efforts of our staff of volunteers who bring you Shop Shots, Sightings, Articles & Reviews, Book Reviews, Links and other favorite WoodCentral features and who moderate our messageboards so ably and patiently. I can't thank them enough for donating their skills and time to the cause.
We also need support from the many thousands of folks who find this site useful, entertaining or indispensible. I know there are a lot or you out there, and if you haven't contributed in the past, I would like to add your name to our "Wall of Fame". If you are already a Wall-of-Famer, I hope you will continue to support WoodCentral in some way. (If you have contributed but are not listed on the Wall of Fame, please let me know that, too. Our clerical department is sometimes a bit lax.)
To cut directly to the chase here, I'd like you to consider supporting WoodCentral in some way. Our advertisers help us to defray many of our fixed costs--such as our annual server fees and domain registration, but we still need your help. The past couple years, I've tried to model our requests for support after National Public Radio's semi-annual fund drives. It's a minor nuisance for a week or two, and then it's over and the mission is funded for another six months.
Premiums for your contributions.
Donations of $50 or more will receive the latest copy of our messsage archives, "WoodCentral: The First Five Years." At the $100 level, donors are eligible for WoodCentral hats or T-shirts, your pick of colors and sizes. And everyone who contributes will get my everlasting esteem and a commitment to keep this site growing and evolving in coming years.
How to contribute…Pay Pal: To encourage more small donations, I've hooked up with Pay Pal, a great online payment system that is now a subsidiary of eBay. Once you're a Pay Pal member, donating is as easy as sending an e-mail: Just log in to your PayPal account, type "firstname.lastname@example.org" in the "Recipient's Email" box, and specify an amount. There are no minimum donations, it's secure, you don't have to give out a credit card number, and WoodCentral gets your donation right away.
There are several ways to send your donation to WoodCentral, and they're all easy:
If you are not already a Pay Pal member, sign up by clicking on the logo below. Your Pay Pal account is bound to come in handy online, especially if you plan to attend online auctions; plus, you'll get a $5 bonus for joining, and WoodCentral will get $5 for referring you. How's that for an easy way to contribute? You actually make money on the deal! (Check PayPal terms for latest signup rules and rewards.)

Other ways you can support WoodCentral…Patronize our advertisers. These good folks are here because you are. Every WoodCentral advertiser sells something that you probably need, so don't be shy. Visit their sites. Take time out from your message meandering to click on our advertisers' banners. They'll be glad you did, and so will you! And, so will WoodCentral when they renew their ad.
Buy a hat or a T-shirt. Our snazzy hats and T-shirts are now proudly worn from coast to coast by the most discerning, fashion-conscious woodworkers. In our "Sightings" frame on the messageboard welcome screen, you can catch glimpses of WoodCentral hats in some pretty bizarre and unexpected places. Join the fun! Click here or on the "WoodCentral Store" link on our messageboard for ordering information.
Buy a book. Every time you order a book by clicking from our book review page or our book list page to Cambium Press's ordering page for that book, WoodCentral receives a small commission. These guys know woodworking books like nobody else; they deserve your patronage. Expand your woodworking library while you support WoodCentral.
Buy from Rockler. As an affiliate of Rockler's online store, we receive a small commission on your online purchases that originate with a click-through from WoodCentral. They've got thousands of carefully-selected, quality products; and you can search their website for bargains using their excellent search function. I'll bet you need several items right now!
Tell your friends about us. Higher traffic to WoodCentral results in higher advertising revenue.
Tell your friends about Woodfinder. Our partner site, Woodfinder, is the easiest way to find sources for wood, wood products and sawmill services. Woodfinder's 350+ suppliers want your business, whether you're looking for one board foot or a truckload. Find veneers, turning blanks, musical instrument woods, salvaged woods, moldings, logs, locally sawn woods and MORE. By patronizing Woodfinder suppliers, you are helping to support our entire online effort. Don't forget to tell them that Woodfinder sent you.
Be a Woodfinder scout. If your favorite wood dealer isn't already a Woodfinder supplier, you can earn a $20 finder's fee by referring them to us. When they join WoodFinder, we'll send you your fee, or you can donate it to WoodCentral! Call toll-free 1-877-933-4637 to register the suppliers you want to scout for us!
Volunteer your services. We can always use use the services of people with Web production skills -- HTML programming, graphic arts, editing experience, etc. -- to help us refresh some of our features and add new ones. If you're willing, able and even remotely interested, please inquire.
That's the long and short of it, folks. The bottom line is that we're all in this together. You can help WoodCentral continue to provide this unusual resource for thirsty woodworkers. All donations are gratefully accepted! And, please, don't hesitate to send me constructive feedback on WoodCentral. Tell me what you like and don't like about the site and suggest anything you'd like me to consider adding to our eclectic mix. As I've said from day one, "This site is BY and FOR you!"
Sorry about the long-winded commercial. Thanks for your support!
